Introduction

This piece of writing is the work that is prepared for the practical purpose. This is the simple work of knowing the main cause of the student’s laziness towards the study during the period or class hour. This proposal is a concept regarding the overall students of globe and their laziness or negligence towards the study in class time through few numbered research in the specific college and the specific faculty though it is not possible to know the fact cause of all the students of globe. But for minimum number it may reflect the cause of their laziness towards study in class. So this proposal is designed to research certain students of a single faculty about their laziness on study.
As we know study is one of the important subjects of all time. The achievement of present era is the result of past study, experience and knowledge. From the ancient time we human being have changed and modernized a lot and still we are trying to change which will keep on happening on the issue of being change the study and education have played a vital role in human evolution. The modification, modernization, scientific application in a systematic process and many more principles are developed after the study of the old tradition and culture that has brought a drastic change in the human society, human thought and living process.
The study and education can be taken as highly scientific and systematic way to keep the mental process for development approach of past activities. The study is exactly a process of understanding and learning the method of different phenomena that occurs in the nature and developed by the human mind after different attempts of experience. For the same approach of study most of the teen age students and bachelor’s students are found being bore in classes. They do not find themselves interested while studying in class. They feel bored when the teacher keeps on lecturing. They are out of concentration, sometimes many of them get slept while the period is going on, sometime students bunk the class and some time they make an excuses and skip the classes. There are many causes regarding such issues which hamper the understanding and learning process of the students. Such type of regular behavior can make students weak in study and they may get failed in their examination. Many of the students get loss of interest in study due to laziness which hampers their future and intellectual capacity.
Laziness is a habit rather than a mental health issue. It may reflect a lack of self-esteem, a lack of positive recognition by others, a lack of discipline stemming from low self-confidence, or a lack of interest in the activity or belief in its efficacy. Laziness may manifest as procrastination or vacillation. Studies of motivation suggest that laziness may be caused by a decreased level of motivation, which in turn can be caused by over-stimulation or excessive impulses or distractions. The students are the growing mind which is developed by collecting wide range of knowledge through study or by experience. During the college or school time the students should be motivated for collecting the knowledge and skills and the understanding of the different process. Though they study in college many of the students get bored if they have to study for the long time with the same teacher and they also get bored if they do not understand due to which they don’t try to study or listen to the teacher. In the college most of the students like to study with enjoyment and understanding the subject. And many of the students do not care the teaching of teachers and make noises and that noise disturb other obedient students which drag the concentration of those obedient students too and the studying environment of the class is changed to non-studying environment. Such types of behavior of students are caused due to laziness of the students while they try to remove their laziness by different activities in class.
Thus, this proposal mean for the searching of different facts and reason behind their laziness in class. The proposal is prepared with different important view regarding the interest of student in study through the mental approach and also through the class environment that is effected by the teaching process of the teacher which is accepted by the student’s mentality. This research is important because it will light on the reason behind the laziness of the student towards the study. So, this research may help in developing different views and ideas to improve the student’s habits from laziness to activeness for the study and gaining knowledge for their better future and also for their academic qualification.

Statement of the Problem

The research is designed to focus on the main factor cause of the laziness of the students towards the study in class hour. Many of the bachelor 3rd year students are found being not interested on study in class while the teacher keeps on lecturing the important subject. Such activities can easily hamper on their understanding and also on their examination which minimize the rate of passing students in context of Nepal. The problem most students face is laziness that contributes to the failing the subject and also omit the overall understanding of the subject. Through the above assertion the research is conducted to analysis the main cause of the laziness and the alternative way to alleviate the laziness during class hour.

Objectives of Research

In general the objective of this research is
·                     To know the laziness of the students

Specifically the objectives of research are
·                     To fulfill the academic requirement for the bachelors degree of art and social work.
·                     To fulfill the practical learning of research and proposal.
·                     To examine the number of the students facing the problems in each class.
·                     To analysis the cause of the laziness.

Literature review

Laziness is disinclination to activity or exertion despite having the ability to act or exert oneself. It is often used as a pejorative; terms for a person seen to be lazy include couch potato, slacker, and bludger.
Sigmund Freud explores his psychological concept of laziness as pleasure principle. Despite Sigmund Freud’s discussion of the pleasure principle, Leonard Carmichael notes that  “laziness is not a word that appears in the table of contents of most technical books on psychology…It is a guilty secret of modern psychology that more is understood about the motivation of thirsty rats and hungry pecking pigeons as they press levers than about the way in which poets make themselves write poems or scientists force themselves into the laboratory when the good golfing days of spring arrive.” A 1931 survey found that high school students were more likely to attribute their failing performance to laziness, while teachers ranked “lack of ability” as the major cause, with laziness coming in second. Laziness is not to be confused with volition, a negative symptom of certain mental health issues such as depression, ADHD, sleep disorders, and schizophrenia.
These increase the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter responsible for reward and pleasure. The more dopamine that is released, the greater intolerance one has for valuing and accepting productive and rewarding action. This desensitization leads to dulling of the neural patterns and affects negatively the anterior insula of the brain responsible for risk perception. ADHD Specialists say being engaging in multiple activities can cause behavioral problems such as attention/focus failure or perfectionism and subsequently pessimism. In these circumstances laziness can manifest as a negative coping mechanism (aversion), the desire to avoid certain situation in the hopes of countering certain experiences and preconceived ill results. Lacanian thought says laziness is the “acting out” of archetypes from societal programming and negative child rearing practices. Boredom is sometimes conflated with laziness; one study shows that the average Briton is bored 6 hours a week. Thomas Goetz, University of Konstanz, Germany, and John Eastwood, York University, Canada, concur that aversive states such as laziness can be equally adaptive for making change and toxic if allowed festering. An outlook found to be helpful in their studies is “being mindful and not looking for ways out of it, simultaneously to be also open to creative and active options if they should arise.” They point out that a relentless engaging in activities without breaks can cause oscillations of failure, which may result in mental health issues. It has also been shown that laziness can render one with apathetic to reactant mental health issues such as anger, anxiety, freeloading, indifference, substance abuse, and depression.

Christianity
One of the Catholic seven deadly sins is sloth, which is often defined as spiritual and/or physical apathy or laziness. Sloth is discouraged in (Hebrews 6:12),2 Thessalonians, and associated with wickedness in one of the parables of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew ( Matthew 25:26). In the wisdom books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, it is stated that laziness can lead to poverty (Proverbs 10:4, Ecclesiastes 10:18). According to Peter Binsfeld’s,Binsfeld’s Classification of Demons, Belphegor is thought to be its chief demon.

Buddhism

In Buddhism, the term kausidya is commonly translated as “laziness” or “spiritual sloth”. Kausidya is defined as clinging to unwholesome activities such as lying down and stretching out, procrastinating, not being enthusiastic about or engaging in virtuous activity.(The Treasury of Knowledge, Book 6, Part 3: Frameworks of Buddhist Philosophy)

Methodology

Research Design
This study is the quantitative research relating to the students behavior in class. The designed is the method and techniques used in research to find the aimed result of the problem. The questionnaire and survey are the method that is used to gain the quantitative response from the individual students which will be analysis for the average cause of the problem.

Questionnaire
Questionnaire is the set of questions related to the research topic targeted to the appropriate answer from the respondents. The data will be collected through questionnaire which will be quantitative and closed type as well as open type. The questionnaire will be distributed to each students of the class and will be requested to write their experience regarding the problems.
The questionnaire was prepared on the basis of the topic to get the proper answer of the issue.
According to the proposal the questionnaire was prepared with different 42 questions related to the topic. At first the questionnaire was given to the supervisor for the accuracy check. And finally the questionnaire was printed out in A4 paper and distributed to the students of the NIMS College to collect the information regarding the issue. Each and every student are properlyguided to fill the correct answers as they have experienced the laziness to get the accuracy of the cause of issue. The questionnaire was collected after the completion of expressing their experience and opinion about laziness through questionnaire. On the basis of number of the questionnaire the data were collected for the finding of fact.

Field work
The field work is the process of gathering the information and data going in field and interviewing or observing the behavior of the respondent. Every kind of research involves field work to get the required information regarding the issue. In this research process the researcher participated in distributing and collecting the questionnaire with the students. The researcher participate him/herself by involving him/her in interaction with students about the research topic and requesting them to fill up the appropriate answers without any false or lie. The researcher distributed each questionnaire to every student and also observed and interviewed with few to know their views regarding the issue. The respondent gives their opinion in written form in the questionnaire and submitted those entire questionnaires to the researcher.

Area
In every research there is certain area to research about which makes it easier to research and complete with in the given time. Similarly this research has specified selected area for the collection of data regarding the problem faced by the students. The specified area for this research is the students of the BA 3rd year from NIMS college. This college is located at Kanibahal of Lalitpur. In this college there are many students who are facing this problem of being lazy and bored in class hour. But only the 3rd year students are selected for research purpose to collect the data and analysis their lazy behavior on study. So to collect the data on this topic the researcher has collected the data within the given area as mentioned above.

Limitation
The limitation is a kind of process which limits certain work or activities in the research process. During the research if we continue for all the students than this research may take many days and it may consume lots of time which may result as failure of the research. So there is little limitation for this research to make it success with in the given time. The limitations of this research are listed below.

·                     Limited time duration.
·                     Pre-planned questionnaire.
·                     Limited area of research.

This table was originally prepared by the data and information collected by those students of NIMS College. In the NIMS College of B.A faculty, 40 students were surveyed for the research data. All together 40 students were given the questionnaire to provide their experience and opinion regarding laziness. According to the above data the 40 students have given different experience and opinion regarding their laziness. The data shows different causes toward laziness in college which they have faced. They are also asked different questions regarding their social, economic and environmental factors for the laziness. The above data gives the reference to analysis the main causes of the laziness of the students towards their study.
This data was collected only from the students to get the result from the student perspective. The data shows the results of the research as per expected. In this data altogether 40 students were surveyed by questionnaire. Among them 10 students were found to be active during the class hour and the remaining 30 gets lazy during the class hour due to the causes given in the table. As per the data above it shows that there are only 10 students who are active and do not feel lazy in class while being taught. On the other hand there are 30 students who feel lazy during the class hour. The students who get lazy are classified under different causes on the basis of their experience.
There are 30 students who gets lazy, among them 4 are lazy due to sleepiness. The data shows there are 4 students who get lazy by the lecture of the teacher. The 7 students are lazy due to the presentation and teaching way of the teacher as it is mentioned in the table. There are 9 students who become lazy due to the teacher while the teacher do not elaborate or explain the chapter in detail. The five students have given their view for their laziness is that the teacher teaches out of the topic which make them boring and get lazy to concentrate and study. Finally there is only one student who gets lazy due to his/her mental pressure. This data present all the reasons behind the laziness of the student and the ratio of the student of getting lazy in class.

Other factors supporting for laziness
During the research the questionnaire was given to the students to write their view about the laziness they get during class. In that sense different other factor supporting their laziness was asked in questionnaire like social factor, economic factor, health factor and environment factors. Sometime the students get lazy due to the environment, social, health and economic factors too so they are asked about their social, health, economic and environmental that are leading them become lazy to study. In the social factor the students were given different question related to their family matters, their private life and also about social effects. In another factor health the students were asked about their health condition, long and short term disease they faced. Similarly, economic and environmental aspects were also asked whether they face any economic crisis and whether have environmental problems. In this factor the students have different views as per their social background, economic strength and health but it does not seem to have any support for the laziness of the students as per their response in this regard.

Pie-chart analysis
The above pie-chart is prepared from the data collected by the research. To prepare the pie chart the obtained numbers of student on the specific result was divided by the total number of the student surveyed multiplying with hundred. The obtained number after calculation is the percentage of the specific result of the students.
The pie chart shows the data of the students who are lazy and active in percentage with colorful value. In this pie chart the students who are active are denoted by 25% whereas the remaining 75% students were not active as they get lazy due to different reasons. The causes of the students who get lazy were written on the right side of the pie chart with the color icon that denotes the percentage of the concerned student reason to be lazy. At the first point of this pie chart the active students were denoted by 25% whereas others 75% are lazy students. The student who gets lazy due to sleepiness is only 10%. Due to the lecture of the teacher the students who get lazy are only 10%.Similarly the pie chart shows there is 17.50% of student gets lazy due to the teachers teaching and presentation process. There is 22.50% of student who become lazy due to the lack of explanation and elaboration of the chapter. On the other hand there is 12.50% student who thinks they become lazy because of the teacher getting out of the track or out of the topic. Finally there is only 2.5% of student who become lazy due to mental pressure.
The pie chart has revealed all the data of the students in percentage which has made easier to know the result of the issue in percentage. The pie chart shows that the percentage of student who gets lazy is higher than the students who are active. The students who are lazy are also further divided into sub division as per their respond. In this pie chart diagram the highest percentage of the student who gets lazy is revealed by the cause of less explanation or not enough elaboration of the chapter. The percentage is 22.50% who become lazy due to lack of enough elaboration of the chapter. The lowest percentage of the students who gets lazy is due to mental pressure which is only 2.50%.

Out come and achievement
Any researchesthat are carried out always have certain purpose of those researches. In the same way this research also has its own objectives to achieve and fulfill the necessary requirements. By this research there are certain out comes which are achieved after the analysis of the data.
The research was conducted in a class of bachelor 3rd year where the students attend only 5 classes. There are 40 students who attend different 5 classes and the classes are Major English (314), Sociology Research, Social work, Major English (315), Rural Development. During these classes the most students says that they get laziness during Sociology Research class. By the analysis of the data the result shows that there are 25% of students who are active during the class hour and other remaining are 75% who gets lazy due to different reasons in each class of the college. From the above table the first objective of the research has been fulfilled with the number of research done with students. The research is in quantitative method which gives the appropriate analysis of the data to get the accuracy in term of the number. The table shows that 40 students where surveyed in single class of the college in which 10 students are active students and 30 are not active or gets lazy. Among them there is different number of students who gets lazy due to different reasons. The result shows that 30 students have become lazy due to different reasons. The reasons are due to sleepiness, lack of proper explanation, due to long lecture, out of topic, mental pressure etc. These all results are the findings of this research which are the outcomes and achievement of the work done. There are some students who get lazy by their own cause and some gets by the teacher’s weakness. The reason due to which students gets lazy by their own problem is only 12.50% and due to teachers is 62.50%.
The students who feels laziness claims that they gets lazy due to teachers. The teacher gets out of the topic during the teaching hour and does not explain the topics properly due to which they do not understand the chapter properly. Some of the student says that they feel laziness due to the long lecture of the teacher in the class. And some says that they become lazy due to their own behavior that is due to the sleepiness and mental pressure on study. There are different factors that lead to the lazy behavior of the students but the most common cause is the teacher who teaches the student. On the basis of the teaching process the students has given their view towards the laziness they feel. They claim that the teacher motivate but that motivation works for certain time only till they teaches the students properly but when they start talking out of topic or when they do not make students understand the motivation gets disappear and students stop concentrating on study which lead them to be lazy. Some of the students are mentally depressed due to some other factors so they don’t feel activeness in class for the study. On the basis of their response the depression is caused due to their personal life and relationship. The students though they are depressed they says that the teacher should change the environment of the class which change the mental attitude of the students towards the study.
All the reason and causing factors for the laziness of the students address to the teaching process of the teachers and the mental tiredness of the students. By this research we have taken out the result that lead to the laziness of the students during class. The student wants their teacher to change the teaching way and methods which motivate them to study. This research is one sided research from the student’s perspectives so to make this research strong it may need research from the teachers view too.

Conclusion

Every research is operated to get certain result, new ideas, knowledge, and solution of the problems to share with people in the society. This research is about the laziness of the students towards their study in class. In this research the research proposal was prepared at first and then that was submitted to the department of the social work. After the acceptance the research process was conducted and data were collected and analysis.
After the acceptance of the proposal the research process was carried. In the first step of the research the check list of the question was prepared and on the basis of that checklist the questionnaire was prepared. The questionnaire was aimed for the students of 3rd year of bachelor of NIMS College. After the completion of the questionnaire it was given to the Department of social workto recheck for correction and then the students were distributed the questionnaire. The students were also requested to write the fact and they are also observed too. After the completion of the answering the questionnaire it was collected for the data analysis to find the fact of the issue.
Before conducting this research different literature review were studied to know different writers views towards the laziness of the students. After the literature review the further process was proceed towards the data analysis. The data were arranged in tabulation and pie chart was prepared to get the result in number and percentage of the research. The data were analyzed and the objective was aimed to meet. While analyzing the data different types of pie chart and tables were prepared. The first data was prepared on the table which shows the number of the students facing the same reasons of the laziness. After each table and pie chart those tables and pie chart were analyzed on the basis of the result. On the second step the data was prepared on basis of the gender to know the male and female composition towards the laziness. This data was prepared on pie chart which resulted as 45% male and 55% female who were lazy. On another step the data of active and lazy student was prepared which shows the percentage of active student and the percentage of lazy student. Similarly one more data was prepared on the basis of the subject that the students get laziness and finally the overall data was prepared on the pie chart to show the overall students laziness due to different reasons. Each and every data were analyzed and explained. As per the aimed objective the data and research has revealed the result which meet the researcher hypothesis. On the basis of different writer’s view laziness was addressed as psychological problem as well as it was the lack of the motivation of the person. This research was researched in one side way as it was only researched to students only whereas it should be conducted to teachers also. Though this research has proven the writers view as it was not completely psychological problem. From that sense it can be concluded that the issue of being lazy during the class hour is not only psychological but more due to the lack of the motivation of the individual. If the individual is not motivated than they gets lazy to do any kind of activity so to make them work actively they have to be motivated and inspired a lot.
